Fire Door Installation and Surveys;

At Capital Risk Assessment we know that the world of fire safety can become confusing. Therefore we ensure we are able to take the stress away from you by carrying out various essential risk assessments to ensure you are complying with legislation and keeping everyone safe within your property. One of the services we offer is Fire Door Surveys. Best practice guides suggest that a fire door survey should be completed every 6 months Or every 3 months for high traffic areas such as healthcare facilities and hotels. In accordance with BS1634 all fire doors must be certified to withstand fire for a minimum specified period. Most commonly the expectation is 30 minutes (FD30) although you can also get fire doors that withstand fire for longer periods of time FD60 (60 minutes) and FD240 (240 minutes). The length of time a fire door is required to withstand a fire will be dependent on your property use. Our fire door experts will be able to inform you which fire doors are required to ensure compliance within your property.

How we ensure your Fire Door Survey needs are met;

One of our fully trained fire door experts will carry out an on site visit to start a fully comprehensive assessment of the fire doors already in place. During the visit the fire door expert will use a video camera to record their findings and ensure all the relevant information is captured so it can be included within the survey documentation. If for any reason it is not appropriate due to the nature of your business that a recording device is used, we ask that you inform us we can ensure an alternative method of capturing the information can be arranged.

Following the visit if it is deemed that the current doors do not meet legislation then the fire door expert will liaise with you the concerns found and if agreed they will source suitable replacements and arrange for the installation to be completed. Upon completion of the recommendations a secondary survey will be completed and you will receive a digital copy of the report along side certification of compliance. You will then be covered by our liability insurance for the lifespan of the certification (t&c’s apply).

When your fire door survey is due for renewal you will receive a reminder email to ensure you are able to book in and maintain compliance with UK legislation.

Whats included within the Survey?

  • The fire resisting qualities of the fire door, hardware and hinges inclusive of any relevant markings to identify the fire rating of the door set.

  • The condition and operation of the hinges,hardware and any hold open devices that may be present.

  • A comprehensive check of fire door signage inclusive of location, fitting and condition.

  • A review of any fire door closing devices inclusive of their condition and operational effectiveness to close the door sets.

  • An inspection of any locks and latches to check their condition, ensure they comply with legislation and are fully operational.

  • An inspection of any viewing panels or glazing to ensure their condition and compliance with legislation.

  • A review of any cold smoke seals and intumescent strips

  • A fully comprehensive assessment on the door set looking at the fire resisting qualities, thickness and materials used in installation.

  • A full inspection of the leaf and frame ensuring the threshold for suitability is met.
